Funding For Group Homes: How Much Does the Government Pay in Calgary?
In Calgary, our team supports families accessing government funding for personalized care options.
How to Apply for FSCD
The Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program helps Calgary families who have children with developmental, physical, sensory, mental, or neurological disabilities. Our team guides families through the FSCD application process and connects them to appropriate services, including residential care for youth, behavioral consultations, and specialized support programs.
How to Apply for PDD
The Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program provides funding for Calgary adults with developmental disabilities to access residential care services. This funding helps residents live in supportive homes while developing essential life skills including housekeeping, social interaction, personal care, decision-making, and safety awareness.
How to Apply for AISH in Calgary
The Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program helps Calgary adults with permanent medical conditions get income support. AISH funding covers group home care in Calgary, and residents can submit one application for both AISH and PDD programs.
How Entrust Meets Your Family’s Residential Care Needs in Calgary
We create homes for our clients that make them feel safe and among a community of friends and family.
Peer Matching
Each Entrust home houses up to 3 residents. We match new residents based on their shared interests and needs. This matching process helps residents save money on living costs and share support staff. Many residents in our group homes have formed lasting friendships with their housemates.
Wellness Support Plans in Calgary
We recognize that each person has unique needs and goals. Our behavior specialists create a Wellness Support Plan during the initial behavioral consultation. This individualized plan documents daily routines, behavior patterns, known stressors and triggers, and positive redirection techniques. Our team uses this plan as a living document to support each person’s growth and help them live a full and meaningful life.
Taking care of others is demanding work, and families need support too. Our Wellness Plans help families, caregivers, and teachers access the resources and guidance they need. Through flexible strategies and collaborative planning, we help everyone work toward greater independence.
Behavioural Consultations
We understand that effective care begins with truly knowing each person’s specific needs and preferences. Through behavioral consultations, we learn these needs, create personalized wellness plans, and build daily routines that support each individual’s success.
Our qualified behavior specialists conduct consultations in-person at our office or through video calls, with oversight from a registered psychologist. Your specialist meets with the client and important people in their lives to ensure they receive the best support possible.
Group Homes for Youth with Disabilities
In our Group Homes for Disabled Youth, children receive top-quality personal care. Each child goes through a careful matching process to find the right home. We work with teachers, counsellors, and caregivers to help children succeed both in their Entrust home and in the community.
Group Homes for Adults with Disabilities
Our Group Homes for Adults with Disabilities go beyond basic care. Residents can join Community Access Supports in Calgary. This program helps adults build relationships, find jobs, and set personal goals to become more independent.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the government pay for group homes?
In Calgary, group home funding is determined by three key factors:
- Individual support needs
- Required care level
- Specific services used
Government funding through AISH and PDD typically covers most residential care costs for eligible Alberta residents, though specific amounts vary based on individual assessed needs. Connect with your local social worker to understand your specific funding options.
Who qualifies for group homes?
In Calgary, group home eligibility depends on:
- Your age
- Type of disability
- Support needs
- Individual care requirements
People with developmental disabilities or mental health needs can qualify for group homes. Our team works with healthcare providers and caseworkers to assess each person’s eligibility and create a care plan.
Are group homes effective?
In Calgary’s group homes, success depends on three key matches:
- Resident needs align with available services
- Staff have expertise in specific disabilities
- Home environment supports personal goals
Entrust’s group homes provide structured support that helps residents grow skills and independence while being part of their community.
Are group homes permanent?
In Calgary, Entrust offers flexible group home options that match each person’s needs. Some residents stay in our group homes for a short time while learning skills or preparing for different housing. Other residents make our homes their permanent place in the community, receiving ongoing support and care. The length of stay depends on each person’s goals and the level of independence they want to achieve in a supportive environment.
Are group homes safe?
In Calgary, Entrust group homes follow strict safety standards set by Alberta Health Services. Our staff complete extensive safety training and follow clear protocols to protect residents. We maintain security systems, emergency procedures, and regular safety checks at all locations. Each home undergoes periodic government inspections to ensure quality care standards are met and maintained.
What are the levels of group homes?
In Calgary, Entrust group homes provide different care levels based on each resident’s needs:
- Supported Living offers basic supervision for more independent residents. Comprehensive Care provides 24-hour support for those needing intensive assistance. Our staffing levels and specialized services match each person’s medical, behavioural, and developmental requirements.
- The level of care covered by funding depends on your program assessment. Your caseworker and disability support worker can explain your specific coverage and options.
