Bonnie Finds Success in Every Sense!

How Multi-Sensory Rooms Support Individuals with Autism
Bonnie is an Entrust client who has autism spectrum disorder. Bonnie has specific sensory processing needs and had recently been feeling restless and anxious due to sensory overload. The support staff at Shack residential facility, where Bonnie lives, decided to take her to visit the specialized multi-sensory room at the ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Rundle Park.
Planning the Community Recreation Outing
We organized the therapeutic recreation trip with a few of Bonnie's friends from the residential program. We used money the group earned from their bottle and can recycling program to pay the entrance fee for the sensory facility. Bonnie spent about thirty minutes in the multi-sensory room during her visit. She enjoyed interacting with the bubble tube, interactive light panel, ceiling projector, fiber optic lights, and color-changing motion lamps.
Positive Outcomes from Sensory Room Experience
The trip to ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre was a beneficial therapeutic experience for Bonnie. She was notably relaxed and calm during her time in the sensory environment. In fact, Bonnie was so satisfied with her sensory room experience that she is actively requesting to visit the multi-sensory room again for future therapeutic sessions!
